MOTHER TREE

In Collection 006: Mother Tree, Grover Rad takes a look at the elaborate web of life that thrives above and beneath the forest floor. This collection is inspired by the wisdom of the mother tree who nourishes her seedlings, communicating through intricate underground networks.

Through the use of prints, each piece is intended to be wearable art that sparks conversation. The imagery featured includes historical etchings and oil paintings, vintage photographs, and Falling Leaves, 2008 artwork by renowned British artist Jonathan Yeo.  These prints dive into the history of logging, the devastating reality of deforestation, and the environmental impact of forest fires.

Jonathan Yeo, a celebrated figurative artist, has worked in a number of mediums including oil paint and collage. In his Falling Leaves series, female genitalia is cut up and collaged as seemingly innocuous leaves. Lizzie Grover Rad was drawn to Yeo’s provocative work, which confronts the deep-rooted association between femininity and nature.
